Mongla Special Economic Zone in Bangladesh
PowerPac Special Economic Zone or Mongla Special Economic Zone
The PowerPac Economic Zone (Mongla) is the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) special economic zone in Bangladesh. Located on the river Mongla, the PowerPac SEZ occupies an area of 205 acres of land with land around it for future expansion. The PowerPac SEZ is well connected to Dhaka and other parts of the country by road, rail, sea and air, meaning that the PowerPac SEZ offers an excellent investment area and opportunity for both local and international businessmen alike.
The PowerPac SEZ is located just 3km from the nearby Mongla port to facilitate shipping both domestically and abroad and is only 105km from the Jessore Domestic Airport. Dhaka, Bangladesh
International Airport is 158km and there is a proposed site for a new Khan Jahan Ali Airport at Rampal, 20km away.
With regard to power supply, which can be notably poor in certain parts of Bangladesh, the PowerPac SEZ will benefit from the PGCB substation located 1km from the site, which has a surplus capacity to more than meet the needs of the SEZ. As a backup to this, an independent power plant will also be setup within the zone premises.
Local projects which will facilitate the PowerPac SEZ are the Padma Bridge, which when completed in 2018 will reduce road and rail traveling times to and from Dhaka by around 2-3 hours to and from Dhaka and the eastern parts of the country. The 53km long Khulna-Mongla railway line to connect the countries second sea port at Mongla with the main rail network will also pave the way for mainline rail communication with the rest of Bangladesh.
